Suzan Germond has been making mosaics in Austin Texas since 2000. Suzan has taken many workshops and advanced classes in addition to teaching her own mosaic method. She has studied with Sonia King, Eric Rattan, Ellen Blakely, Isaiah Zagar and Sherri Warner-Hunter. In May 2006 Suzan traveled to Venice to study at the Orsoni Glass Factory where she received a master certificate.

She has a Ph.D. in Art History from Stanford University and has experience as a college instructor, an art appraiser of Old Masters and working in fine art galleries. With this substantial art background to draw upon Suzan has chosen to make mosaics that embody the transformative process; changing old, discarded, nondescript objects into works of beauty. Suzan uses a variety of materials such as iridescent glass, Italian smalti, ceramic tile, colored mirror, jewelry and found objects to create detailed, colorful and whimsical art work.

Suzan believes children should be exposed to public art and has donated her time and labor to numerous projects. She has completed several large scale mosaics for several public schools in and around Austin.

Suzan has created her own signature style of mosaic bouquets. Using a variety of unusual and unexpected materials Suzan makes intriguing dimensional bouquets set against a mosaic background.

Suzan is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists and the American Craft Council.  Her work has been published in Creative Garden Mosaics (Jill MacKay, Lark Publishing, 2003), (Laurel Skye, NorthLight, 2009). Mosaic Madness (Cathy Agustine, New Art Review, 2011). Suzan's work has been exhibited at the Blue Crow Studio in Austin. Her work is currently shown at Artisans at Rocky Hill  and Positive Images Gallery in Austin.

The artist has written her own how-to book Found Art Mosaics which is now available in bookstores and online.

Suzan owns and runs a full scale mosaic studio where she works, teaches classes and sells her fine art pieces. The studio is located at 1200 Lakeway Dr. Suite 16 in Austin Texas 78734. Feel free to call the shop at 512 261-5767  to schedule an appointment to visit.
